The Food Safety Act 1990 was introduced to ensure the exercise of due diligence throughout the food chain. Coupled with the recently introduced Feed Hygiene Regulations, which focus on traceability, it demonstrates the importance of Quality Assurance.
As a result, UFAS (Universal Feed Assurance Scheme) has developed over the last five years and runs alongside a wider initiative for livestock organised by Assured British Meat (ABM) and Assured Food Standards (AFS).
UFAS covers the production and delivery of compound feeds and the supply of feed materials to the farm.
