The Food Satety Act 1990 was introduced to ensure the exercise of due diligence throughout the food chain. Coupled with the recently introduced Feed Hygiene Regulations, which focus on traceability, it demonstrates the importance of Quality Assurance.

As a result, UFAS (UKASTA Feed Assurance Scheme) has developed over the last five years and runs alongside a wider initiative for livestock organised by Assured British Meat (ABM) and Assured Food Standards (AFS).

FEMAS is UFAS' sister scheme and covers the sourcing and production of feed materials tracked right back to the country where they are grown.
